Azeri Fields Telecommunications
- Phase 1
This integrated telecommunications/security
project incorporates the connection of 3 Offshore drilling platforms
in the Caspian Sea via a 200km
Sub-sea Fibre Optic Network. The project has been implemented over 3
years in 3 phases.
Optilan Engineering Services has been awarded
contracts by BP International/AIOC for all three phases – a
total value of in excess of £20m.
Integrated telecoms/security system for Phase 1 of the project - the Central
Azeri offshore platform and the on-shore process plant and control
centre at Sangachal, Azerbaijan - is complete
and is being maintained by
Optilan under a separate contract.
Optilan are currently completing Phases 2 (West Azeri) and 3 (East Azeri) of the
project. The specifications for West and East Azeri are very close to
that of Central Azeri, with the addition of microwave links to the
shore.
In addition, Optilan has recently completed work prior to shipping on
the telecommunications systems for the Shah Deniz gas
rig, a sister BP/Caspian Sea project.

effectiveness of the customer/contractor interface, Optilan
established a site office in Baku, and
a BP Project Team operated from dedicated offices within
Optilan’s UK
headquarters. Around 35 Optilan personnel have been working on site
in Azerbaijan
at any one time.
The Optilan was also responsible for the supervision of a local
company for the installation of cabling, minor civil works etc.
