Optilan Awarded Contract for Network Rail Kent SISS Renewals

Optilan the leading Communications and Security systems integrator, has been awarded a multi-million pound contract by Network Rail for the installation of customer information and public address systems at railway stations across the Kent route into London. As Principal Contractor Optilan will be responsible for design, supply, installation and commissioning works at 136 stations across the Kent regional rail network.

The Kent SISS renewals project is expected to be completed by the close of Q4 2018 with delivery in excess of 400 Customer Information Screens (CIS), 4200 Loudspeakers and 100,000 metres of cabling to replace existing legacy equipment. Works will also be undertaken at numerous CIS control centre locations to enhance the CIS Servers and Operator GUI workstations providing greatly enhanced control and management systems with improved reliability and maintainability.

In addition to the large number of local commuter stations, the works will also take place at English Heritage sites and listed buildings. Further to this Optilan are also refreshing the CIS and PA at major interchanges including Ashford International and Waterloo East.

Eamonn Brady, Optilan (UK) Managing Director comments: “Having recently undertaken several changes to our organisational structure this contract provides an excellent opportunity for Optilan to showcase our skills and expertise in railway telecoms in a high-profile environment. We are pleased to be on board with this project which will roll out high-end, high definition visual and digital audio customer information systems at a number of the UKs key rail hubs and large footfall stations.

Our client has very clear requirements for both the CIS and PA Systems and we will be enhancing these stations by incorporating newer technologies to provide a high availability, future proofed system which are easier and more cost effectively maintainable.”

This project follows Optilan’s other major contract awards in delivering high profile rail network communications and security projects, including installing similar station information and security enhancements at 13 Crossrail North Eastern Spur stations.
